The Ogun State Police Command have reportedly killed two suspected kidnappers and arrested two others in a gun duel with the hoodlums in the creek at Ode-Omi, a border community between Lagos and Ogun State. Four policemen also sustained injuries in the exchange of gun fire which lasted for hours. The alleged kidnap gang was said to be behind the abduction of the community’s Chief Imam’s sons, Abdulazeez Sanni, Adamson Bamidele, and Adam Jelili. They were, however, rescued last Friday unhurt.
The Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, on Thursday paraded the two suspects arrested during the gun battle at the headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. Makama told journalists that his men after rescuing the captives, advanced into the abductors’ hideout in the creek and engaged them in gun battle. He said four of the kidnap gang members who left the creek to relocate ran into the hands of policemen and were promptly arrested them.
Makama further explained that there was a twist when other members of the syndicate laid ambush around Abigi and J4 area, for the SARS operatives conveying the four suspects from the creek to Abeokuta. He said the gang members opened fire on the SARS operatives, adding that two out of four suspects and one of the attackers were killed in the shoot-out. The CP urged members of the public, especially hospitals to report anybody seen with gunshot injury to the police in their area.
