A 35-year-old woman, Monsurat Olusayan has been arrested by operatives of the Police Command in Ogun State, for allegedly inflicting injuries on her four-year-old niece. The suspect reportedly inflicted injuries on the victim with hot knife when the hapless girl poured away a pot of soup. A statement issued on Sunday by the Command Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi hinted that her arrest followed a complaint by an unnamed person at a Sango Division headquarters on October 18.
The statement quoted the complainant as saying the victim is on the verge of being sent to early grave if appropriate steps is not taken to save the little girl from the wicked aunty. According to the statement, the suspect who accused the girl of mistakenly pouring a pot of soup away put a knife on fire and used the hot knife to inflict injuries all over her body. The suspect also allegedly bit the victim on her lips and stomach.
Oyeyemi said the DPO Sango Division, Godwin Idehai subsequently detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested. On interrogation, she admitted being responsible for the injuries on the body of the victim but pleaded with the police to be lenient with her, claiming that devil pushed her to do it, the statement said. Oyeyemi said the victim has been taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect has been detained at Sango division. He added that the commissioner of police, Bashir Makama has directed that the suspect be charged to court as soon as possible.
