CCFA Nigeria was shortlisted as one of the organizations with whom TAI are consulting on the issues of harnessing data to fight corruption in Nigeria.
Transparency and Accountability Initiative (TAI) seek to learn from grantees and other experts in Nigeria on how to ensure greater uptake of available data. To that end, TAI organized one-day convening in Abuja.
The all-day convening was held on February 1st, 2018 at Community Park Bassan Plaza, 10th Street, Central Area District, Abuja, FCT. The programme began at 9:00 and end at 18:00. CCFA Nigeria joined about 25-30 other anti-corruption leaders, primarily working in civil society organizations alongside founders from the US. Organizations present at the event includes Ford Foundation (US and Nigeria), MacArthur Foundation (US and Nigeria), AccountabilityLab (US and Nigeria), Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), One Campaign Nigeria, AR Media Amplified Limited, Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ), Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), Connected Development (CODE), TAI etc.
The convening was engaging, peer-to-peer sharing and co-learning event; there was no power point presentations or panels. Rather, we were hosted as small-group, focused conversations on particular barriers, challenges, and potential solutions related to data-driven, anti-corruption work.
This convening was hosted as part of TAI Nigeria scoping mission, in which they aim to leave with a clearer understanding of how they can better provide support, tailor their investments, and improve donor coordination to leverage opportunities for anti-corruption progress nationally. In particular, they are interested in the power and potential of data disclosures and use for strengthening accountability outcomes.

- How might government and CSOs partner to generate/use data to inform recovery of stolen assets?
- What specific types of information, tools, capacity building, or other resources would help advance your anti-corruption work?
- What are your tips and tactics in working with government officials? How do you influence them and/or build trust to access data you cannot otherwise get or for officials to act on civil society data analysis?
