To mark the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), we joined the Cedar Seed Foundation and the entire community of PWDs in Nigeria to call for a “United Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGs for, With and Persons with Disability.”
This community, despite their incredible strength and determination, often encounter barriers that hinder their full participation in various aspects of life.
In a goodwill message, we advanced our position that every person, regardless of their abilities, deserves equal opportunities, access to education, employment, healthcare, and the chance to actively contribute to our diverse and rich society. To turn this vision into reality, all hands must be on deck in demanding action from stakeholders to promote inclusion for PWDs.
We all can be part of the movement either through advocacy, donations, or active participation, which can make a significant difference in the lives of those who face daily challenges due to disabilities.
As part of the Center’s advocacy efforts to promote the right this community, one of the variables of the Transparency and Integrity Index (TII) is human resources and inclusion, which seek to promote the right of Persons with Disability to employment as provided for in section 29 of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2019, which states that “employers of labour in public institutions shall have at least 5% of persons with disabilities in their employment.”
Together, let’s build a Nigeria where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can live, learn, work, and thrive.
